“Create a clean heart in me, O God.” And the next line of Psalm 51 is just as potent: “and a steadfast spirit renew within me.” These lines taken from King David's act of contrition will hopefully move us to make the entire Psalm 51 our own act of contrition during this season of Lent. I encourage you to read this psalm daily and make David's prayer your own.  If we do this we can more readily enter into the “new covenant” that the Lord has made available to us through the obedience of His Son Jesus who through His suffering becomes the source of eternal salvation for each one of us. Like the Greeks in the gospel, “we would like to see Jesus”, we want to see more of Jesus in our lives and be able to see more of Jesus in the lives of people around us. Like Jesus, we would like to hear the “voice come from heaven” which for you and me is the voice of the Holy Spirit, speaking in us, prompting us to follow Jesus more faithfully in our service of Him by serving one another. Jesus gives us another promise: “the Father will honor whoever serves me.” Let’s claim this promise as we die to self in order to serve others and so serve Jesus Himself….pray for me dear friends…..Fr.
